History

An auspicious heritage
Recently renovated, The Regency, Kuwait first opened its doors in 1981 and soon established itself as a notable landmark on Kuwait’s coastline. Prior to the Gulf War in the 1990’s, the hotel enjoyed a period of increased activity and achieved high acclaim. In the mid 1980’s the property became internationally recognized and accredited, built the country’s largest Conference Centre for the 1986 GCC Summit, and consequently gained extensive recognition as the ‘Best five-star hotel in Kuwait’.
During the Gulf War occupation the Hotel ceased operations. However, after the liberation of Kuwait, the Al Sane family were committed to re-establishing the property as the country’s principal Business, Conference and Exhibition Centre and Resort par excellence!
In 2005, the owning company undertook to restore the entire property to its former glory and, after a brief four years and a substantial $100 million renovation investment, the original hotel has been painstakingly refurbished to the finest detail and re-opened in its full splendor as ‘The Regency, Kuwait’. Together with its enviable location on the shores of the Gulf, a refurbished Conference and Exhibition Centre, and a hand-picked international management team offering premium hospitality and service, the hotel is ideally positioned to once again carry the coveted title of ‘the most prestigious five-star hotel in Kuwait’.
